RANGELEY – Naturalist Warren Balgooyen will lead a program on “Ferns” Sunday July 11th at the Wilhelm Reich Museum on Dodge Pond Road in Rangeley, Maine from 2-4 pm. Warren Balgooyen has presented many programs in the past and is very popular with regular attendees. He has been instrumental in designing many of the trails at Orgonon. He will amaze you with his wealth of knowledge.
Mr. Balgooyen is a Colby graduate with a degree in Biology. He was employed at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens from 1963 to 1983. In 1983 he became a freelance naturalist and landscaper here in Maine. This Sunday will kick off a series of eight different Sunday Nature Programs at the Wilhelm Reich Museum. These programs are free of charge, participants should meet at the outdoor classroom, near the museum. They should be prepared to go walking on the trails: wear proper shoes and clothing, bring water, materials for taking notes, cameras and insect protection. If you have guidebooks on the topic being presented, you may also find that useful. Brochures detailing the workshop schedule and maps of the trail system are available at the museum office and other locations throughout Rangeley.
Visitors are encouraged to visit the Observatory building which details the life and work of renowned physician/scientist Wilhelm Reich, whose interest in the natural environment led to the introduction of the Sunday Nature Programs in 1989. The Observatory is open Wednesday through Sunday 1-5 P.M. in July and August. In September the Observatory is open only on Sundays from 1-5 P.M. Adult admission fee is $6.00 with children under 12 free of charge.
The Nature Programs are funded by individual donors and a grant from the Wing-Benjamin Trust.
