PIAZZA ROCK TRAIL: Pick up the Appalachian Trail where it crosses Route 4, 9 miles south of the center of Rangeley. Hike towards Saddle- back Mountain. The Piazza Rock is an enormous, flat, overhanging boulder appearing to be balanced in mid-air and supporting the growth of large trees. The “Rock” is a fairly easy 1.4 mile walk through rolling woodland and features a series of boulder caves and secret picnic spots with a lean-to shelter. This is a nice hike for the family!
