World Invitational Moose Calling Championship Qualifying Event on June 2nd at Bald Mountain Camps

The final qualifying event for the World Invitational Moose Calling Championship will take place at Bald Mountain Camps on Saturday, June 2 at 6:00 p.m. This is your last chance to qualify for the finals of the moose calling championship and the $1,000 first place prize. The finals will take place on Saturday, June 23 in Oquossoc at the Rangeley Lakes Region Moose Lottery Festival hosted by the Rangeley Region Guides & Sportsmen’s Association. Other prizes to be awarded include items from sponsors Cabelas and Extreme Dimension Wildlife Calls. The contest is also sponsored by Franklin Savings Bank and Moosehead Lager. To enter the moose calling championship all you have to do is show up at Bald Mountain Camps on June 2. Have your calls ready and bring the props you also use to attract moose.

Three qualifying events have already been held. Winners from the events at Cabelas, the Orono and Augusta Sportsman’s Shows along with winners at the Presque Isle Sportsman’s Show’s Moose Calling Contest have already been invited to the finals. As the qualifying events were held, the participants increasingly added to their repertoire of moose calls and attraction techniques. Entrants are evaluated by a panel of judges based on their cow call, bull call, other attractant techniques, and presentation. The other attractant techniques category has seen entrants bringing bushes, antlers, canoe paddles, axe handles and buckets of water. This is a unique Maine event particularly with the contestants showcasing all of their techniques for attracting moose.

The public is invited to view the event at Bald Mountain Camps. Not only will this be an entertaining event but you will learn much from these moose behavior experts.

The Rangeley Lakes Region Moose Lottery Festival will be held in Rangeley and Oquossoc over the June 22-24 weekend. Along with the 2012 IF&W Moose Lottery Drawing there will be numerous outdoor sporting activities for the entire family. The complete schedule of events can be found at http://www.rangeleyguidesandsportsmen.org/. Come enjoy a great weekend in the Rangeley Region.

Next Sky Program on Monday, May 14th

Rangeley, Maine — The Wilhelm Reich Museum’s monthly Sky Program will be on Monday May 14th at museum’s Conference Center on Dodge Pond Road in Rangeley at dusk. We will only have the program if the sky is clear and we can get outside and view the planets and stars with the telescopes.

On April 18th the sky was mostly cloudy at 4 p.m. so we called off the program and went home.  At 6 p.m. it was  clear as a bell out. If we had a contact list we could have e-mailed of called everyone on it,  come back over and had an awesome program. Since it is so hard to predict the weather accuratly in this area we would like to start a contact network of people who are interested in attending or helping with the program.  That list will not be shared with anyone. Send your e-mail address or phone number to wreich@rangeley.org or call us at 207-864-3443 with your contact information. Like us on The Wilhelm Reich Museum’s face book page. Rangeley Radio Station WRGY 90.5 FM,  the Rangeley School and the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce, has been very helpful in getting the Sky Program information out there. We sincerely appreciate that help.

Cookies, coffee and hot chocolate will be served.

The “Sky Program” has been created for all ages as part of the museum’s Natural Science Program and is free of charge.
